Overview

Access control & electronic locks, done properly

Access control is only as reliable as the door it's on. A reader can grant access perfectly and still leave people locked out if the strike is misaligned or the door doesn't latch. Because we're door specialists, we install the electrified hardware and the door together, so the opening works mechanically as well as electronically.

We install stand-alone electronic locks for small offices and rentals, wireless locks that connect to a central system, and hardwired readers, controllers and electrified hardware for larger buildings. We work with the major platforms, including HID, Salto, Keyscan, Kantech, Paxton, Brivo, Genetec, LenelS2, Avigilon Alta and Verkada, as well as Schlage and ASSA ABLOY electronic locks.

When to call

Signs you need us

  • Keys have gone missing and rekeying keeps coming up
  • You need to know who opened which door and when
  • Staff or tenants change often
  • You manage several sites and want one system
  • Your existing readers or controllers are no longer supported

What we cover

Every job is different. These are the kinds of access control work we do most.

Stand-alone electronic locks

Keypad, card or mobile locks that don't need wiring back to a panel. Good for small offices, rentals and single doors.

Networked access control

Readers, controllers and electrified hardware managed from one system, on site or in the cloud, with schedules and audit trails.

Wireless locks

Battery-powered locks that talk to the access system without running wire to each door, useful for interior and retrofit doors.

Barrier-free requirements in Alberta

Alberta uses the National Building Code – 2023 Alberta Edition, in force since May 1, 2024. Its accessibility requirements are in Section 3.8, Accessibility. Here's what it means for doors.

Door hardwareSentence 3.8.3.6.(4) and Clause 3.8.3.8.(1)(b)
Handles, latches and locks must be mounted 900 to 1 100 mm above the floor and work with one hand in a closed fist, without tight grasping or twisting. In practice that means levers, push/pull hardware or panic bars rather than knobs.
Power door operatorsArticle 3.8.2.7.
Power door operators are required at barrier-free entrances (including the inner door of a vestibule), at many doors along a barrier-free path to suites or rooms served by a public corridor, and at the entrance to any washroom with a barrier-free water closet. There are exceptions, so check how they apply to your building.

This is a plain-language summary, not the code itself. Requirements depend on the building's occupancy, size and whether the work is new construction or an alteration. Confirm them with your designer and the local authority having jurisdiction. More on barrier-free code.

How a job runs

Four steps, and you'll know the price before any work starts.

Send photos and details through the form, or call. For commercial work, send the door and hardware schedule if you have one.

  2. Step 2

    We look on site

We confirm sizes, handing, frame condition, power and hardware before anything gets ordered.

  3. Step 3

    You get a written quote

Itemized by door, hardware and labour, with lead times for anything that has to be ordered.

  4. Step 4

    We install and test

We adjust until it closes, latches, locks and opens the way it should, then clean up before we leave.

Questions we hear a lot

Which access control systems do you work with?

We install and service the major platforms, including HID, Salto, Keyscan, Kantech, Paxton, Brivo, Genetec, LenelS2, Avigilon Alta and Verkada, plus Schlage and ASSA ABLOY electronic locks. If you already have a system, we'll work with it.

Do I need wiring to every door?

Not always. Wireless electronic locks connect to the system without a cable to each door. Hardwired readers and strikes are usually better for main entrances and high-traffic doors.

What happens if the power goes out?

That depends on the hardware. Fail-secure locks stay locked and still let people out from the inside; fail-safe hardware unlocks. We help you choose the right setup for each door and the fire and building codes that apply to it.

Can access control work with our automatic doors?

Yes. We can tie readers and electrified locks into automatic operators so an authorized credential unlocks and opens the door in one step.
