Overview

Door installation, done properly

A door only works as well as it was hung. Most of the call-backs we see on other people's installs come down to the same few things: a frame that isn't plumb, shims in the wrong place, a strike that was never lined up, or a gap under the threshold that nobody sealed. We set every door square, shim behind the hinges and the strike, and adjust until it closes and latches with one hand.

We can supply the door, the frame and the hardware, or install what you've already bought. For commercial work we follow the door and hardware schedule on your drawings, including fire ratings, closers, exit devices and electrified hardware.

When to call

Signs you need us

  • You're renovating and the old door no longer fits the opening
  • A new tenant fit-out needs doors and hardware to a schedule
  • The door is warped, rotted or delaminating
  • The frame is damaged from a break-in or impact
  • You want a better-insulated door before winter

What we cover

Every job is different. These are the kinds of door installation work we do most.

Residential

Entry, patio, interior, closet and garage-to-house doors. We bring the door in, protect the floors and leave the trim finished.

Commercial

Hollow metal, solid-core wood and aluminum storefront doors installed to the hardware schedule, with closers and exit devices set up and tested.

Fire-rated

Labelled doors and frames with labelled hardware, installed so the assembly keeps its rating. We don't drill or modify labelled doors in ways that void the label.

How a job runs

Four steps, and you'll know the price before any work starts.

  1. Step 1

    Tell us what you need

Send photos and details through the form, or call. For commercial work, send the door and hardware schedule if you have one.

  2. Step 2

    We look on site

We confirm sizes, handing, frame condition, power and hardware before anything gets ordered.

  3. Step 3

    You get a written quote

Itemized by door, hardware and labour, with lead times for anything that has to be ordered.

  4. Step 4

    We install and test

We adjust until it closes, latches, locks and opens the way it should, then clean up before we leave.

Questions we hear a lot

Can you supply the door, or do I need to buy it?

Either. We can supply the door, frame and hardware, or install a door you've already bought. If you supply it, we'll check the size and handing before the install day so there are no surprises.

How long does a door installation take?

A prehung interior door usually takes a few hours. An exterior door with trim, insulation and sealing usually takes most of a day. Commercial openings depend on the frame and hardware, and we'll give you a schedule with the quote.

Do you install fire-rated doors?

Yes. We install labelled fire-rated doors, frames and hardware so the assembly keeps its rating, and we can replace non-compliant hardware on existing fire doors.
